The Dagg Center has numerous projects in the works and many other plans that will unfold as we move forward. We will update this page as the project list grows.
Books in the Queue
The books listed below are some of the titles we plan to digitize and convert into accessible format for the blind and visually impaired. If you would like to help, see our get involved page.
Book Scanner
The process of making printed material accessible to the blind and visually impaired people involves scanning or photographing the pages, running the images through optical character recognition software, correcting any textual errors, and converting the text to synthesized audible speech.
To facilitate this work flow we are designing a custom scanning rig with inspiration from the DIY Book Scanner community. We are currently in need of cameras and other equipment. You can help us by donating through PayPal or purchasing directly from our Amazon Wishlist.
Bookshare
The Dagg Center partners with Bookshare to house and distribute books we scan and place into accessible formats for the blind and visually impaired.
Wikisource eBooks
For public domain works, Wikisource is an online digital library of free-content on a wiki, operated by the Wikimedia Foundation. The platform provides a collaborative proofreading tool where numerous people can work together to correct the computer generated optical character recognition of scanned materials. The Dagg Center is recruiting volunteers to prepare selected public domain books to be read by blind and visually impaired people. If you would like to help, create an account, read the Wikisource Help:Editing Page, and check out the books listed below.
- The Evidences of Christianity by John L. Dagg
- The Grammar of the English Language by John L. Dagg
